IMACON 2024 Seminar Highlights Urgent Need for Dog Bite Prevention Measures

IMA House, Sector 30, Noida

The recent IMACON 2024 seminar, focused on medical advances and public safety, shed light on the pressing issue of dog bite prevention and mitigation strategies. Spearheaded by prominent animal rights activist, Mr. Sanjay Mohapatra, Founder of House of Stray Animals, Dr. S. Chakarborty and various stakeholders from the community, the seminar convened to address the growing concerns surrounding dog bites and the lack of immediate medical assistance in Noida.

During the event, Mr. Mohapatra highlighted a critical gap in emergency medical services for dog bite victims in Noida. He emphasized that Noida Government Hospital currently lacks access to essential anti-venom treatments for snake bite, forcing victims to be referred to Safdarjung Hospital for urgent medical care. Recognizing the urgency of the matter, stakeholders called for the establishment of a dedicated helpline number to provide immediate assistance and information to those affected by dog bites.

Moreover, discussions revolved around proactive measures to reduce incidents of dog bites, including the establishment of feeding points and awareness campaigns. Mr. Mohapatra stressed the importance of community involvement in feeding stray animals as a means to mitigate aggressive behaviors and reduce confrontations with humans.

In addition to preventive measures, participants advocated for the enforcement of compulsory vaccinations against diseases, particularly rabies, by Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs) or Apartment Owners Associations (AOAs) within their respective societies. This initiative aims to ensure the safety and well-being of both humans and animals within the community.

As communities strive to coexist harmoniously with stray animals, the outcomes of IMACON 2024 underscore the need for collaborative efforts between government agencies, NGOs, and local communities to implement effective dog bite prevention strategies and ensure timely access to medical assistance for all residents, sterilization, feeding and vaccination of all community dogs.
