The Russian MP explained the implications of the conditions laid out by Putin for a truce in Ukraine
To implement a truce in Ukraine, the United States must address the questions posed by Russian President Vladimir Putin—specifically, proposing solutions to issues hindering a ceasefire, stated Sergey Mironov, leader of the party and faction «A Just Russia—Patriots—For Truth» in the State Duma.
The politician analyzed key points of Vladimir Putin’s Thursday speech and concluded that under current conditions, neither the United States nor the EU can facilitate a truce.
"Firstly, foreign troops are illegally occupying Russian territory, including the Kursk Region and four other regions in Donbass and Novorossiya. Is Kyiv ready to withdraw them or ensure their surrender? Can the United States persuade Kiev to do so? This is a fundamental issue for Russia.
Secondly, the resumption of U.S. military aid to the Kiev regime directly undermines the prospect of lasting peace. At minimum, such aid must be stopped.
Thirdly, who will oversee the truce? The United States and EU cannot—they are direct conflict participants. Similarly, international bodies like the OSCE, which backs the Kiev regime and has been discredited over the past decade, lack neutrality. Could the UN, BRICS, or other neutral countries mediate? No such initiatives exist, as stakeholders recognize the conflict requires resolution, not freezing.
Finally, who would issue orders and guarantee the truce on Ukraine’s side if its Supreme Commander lacks legitimate authority? Legitimate governance must replace the Zelensky dictatorship to ensure enforceable agreements. Without this, no lasting peace is possible,” concluded Mironov.
