Manipal Hospital Dwarka launches ‘Oorja’ at Annual Celiac Support Group & Kids Wellness Day

With May observed as Celiac Disease Awareness Month, Manipal Hospital Dwarka in collaboration with IAP Delhi and IAP West Delhi, organised its Annual Celiac Support Group & Kids Wellness Day to promote awareness around gut health, early diagnosis, and healthy gluten-free living among children. The event also marked the launch of ‘Oorja’ - a dedicated support group aimed at ensuring continuous monitoring, regular follow-ups, and healthy growth and development of children living with celiac disease.

The programme, led by Dr. Sufla Saxena witnessed enthusiastic participation from children, adolescents, and parents. It featured health screening, expert-led awareness sessions, nutritional guidance, interactive discussions, and fun engagement activities designed specifically for children. Participants also received personalised counselling and educational support on maintaining gut health, recognising symptoms early, and managing gluten-free diets effectively. One of the key highlights of the event was a panel discussion titled “My Child, My Priority”, which focused on helping parents better understand childhood digestive disorders, growth concerns, and the importance of timely intervention in celiac disease.

A key focus area during the programme was the growing importance of gut health and its impact on children’s overall well-being. Experts discussed how poor gut health can contribute to brain fog, lack of focus, fatigue, and reduced mental clarity in children through the microbiota-gut-brain axis, highlighting the need for timely diagnosis, nutritional balance, and sustained gut care.

Speaking about the initiative, Dr. Sufla Saxena, HOD - Paediatrics and Paediatric Gastroenterology & Hepatology, Manipal Hospital Dwarka, said, “Celiac Disease is an autoimmune condition triggered by gluten consumption, which can affect a child’s growth, nutrition, and overall well-being if left untreated. In India, where wheat-based foods such as rotis, breads, biscuits, and snacks are a regular part of daily meals, managing a gluten-free diet can often be challenging for the families. Many children may present with symptoms such as bloating, poor weight gain, stomach discomfort, fatigue or lack of concentration which are often overlooked. Through initiatives like our Annual Celiac Support Group, we aim to provide continuous support, regular monitoring, nutritional guidance, and long-term care to help children lead healthy, active, and confident lives.”

Manipal Hospital Dwarka remains committed to being a paediatric-ready hospital, providing 24x7 support for children’s healthcare needs ranging from emergencies and routine care to timely vaccinations and specialised paediatric services including gastroenterology, surgery, neurology, and cardiology, etc. ensuring a healthier, happier, and brighter future for every child
