PCOS Awareness Month: Empowering Women to Take Control of Their Health

September is PCOS Awareness Month, a crucial time dedicated to raising awareness about Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS), a common but often misunderstood hormonal disorder affecting millions of women globally. This awareness month, “The Reach Foundation” is committed to empowering women with knowledge, resources, and support to manage their condition and improve their quality of life.

Polycystic Ovary Syndrome affects approximately 1 in 10 women of reproductive age and can lead to a range of symptoms, including irregular menstrual cycles, infertility, weight gain, excessive hair growth, acne, and an increased risk of diabetes and heart disease. Despite its prevalence, PCOS remains underdiagnosed, and many women suffer without the proper information or support to manage their symptoms.

This year with the theme of “Empowerment through Education”. To spread the message amongst the general community, TRF organised an educational awareness sessions emphasising on the importance of early diagnosis, comprehensive treatment plans, and increased access to healthcare services so that they can live a healthier life. TRF urges women to be proactive in seeking medical advice if they experience symptoms of PCOS, as early intervention can prevent complications and improve long-term health outcomes.

This was followed by distribution of sanitary pads and clothes to females and children of slum.

About female reproductive organs, early signs and symptoms of cancer in females were made aware.
