Empowering JCOs for a Second Career: FDDI Noida’s DGR Certificate Course in Retail Management

Noida — Footwear Design & Development Institute (FDDI), Noida successfully concluded its Certificate Course in Retail Management under Directorate General Resettlement (DGR) Scheme of  Ministry of Defence. Conducted from June 9 to August 29, 2025, the program was designed to support Junior Commissioned Officers (JCOs) in making a smooth transition from military service to civilian careers in India’s growing retail sector.

The course offered a comprehensive blend of academic learning and practical training, covering retail operations, merchandising, promotions, supply chain management, sustainability, entrepreneurship, and communication skills. A major highlight was the Retail Store Project, where participants managed a simulated store, gaining hands-on exposure in teamwork, decision-making, and customer service.

Participants expressed their gratitude to Ms. Manju Maan, Executive Director  and DGR for introducing this program and providing them with an opportunity to prepare for second careers. They also praised the faculty for their clear teaching methods and continuous guidance in areas such as supply chain management, sustainability, retail operations, and merchandising. The faculty’s interactive approach and readiness to resolve doubts gave participants the confidence to apply these concepts effectively in real-world business scenarios.

The JCOs further shared that the course gave them a new perspective on the retail sector, particularly in retail operations, supply chain management, and e-commerce. It helped them gain a deeper understanding of entrepreneurship, merchandising, and store management, while broadening their vision of career opportunities in retail and entrepreneurship.  

The closing ceremony was presided over by Executive Director Ms. Manju Maan, with Shri Kamal Sharma, an FDDI alumnus and retail professional with over 13 years of industry experience, serving as the Guest of Honour. Certificates were awarded to all participants in recognition of their successful completion of the program.

Through this initiative, FDDI Noida has reaffirmed its commitment to empowering armed forces personnel by equipping them with industry-relevant knowledge and practical skills, enabling them to build sustainable second careers in the fast-evolving retail industry.
